Is the 6” tall dimension concrete because a piece of Hawaiian koa billet might be persuaded to cloth this mass of iron?Need two pieces - fore arm blank needs to be at least 8" long, 1 1/2" wide and 1 1/2" tall. The butt piece, minimum 12 1/2" long, 1 3/4" wide, and 6" tall (maybe bigger - haven't decided yet)
Now, iff'n I could find a piece of quilted maple the right size and not resawn to thinnness for the qeetar trade - I'd seriously consider it.Would love to see the quilted maple on it!!! Hint hint!
give me size again and I will pick out quilt to fitNow, iff'n I could find a piece of quilted maple the right size and not resawn to thinnness for the qeetar trade - I'd seriously consider it.
Just for grins I decided to look at Turkish Walnut. Gawrsh! after my 3 day recovery from the double concussion as a result of my head hitting the floor after swooning over the prices - I guess the concussions actually knocked some sense into my hard head and that idea may not exist anymore.
would have it!Turkish walnut is beautiful but I agree-price is staggering. Now, iff'n I could find a piece of quilted maple the right size and not resawn to thinnness for the qeetar trade - I'd seriously consider it.

I will dig a piece out. I did almost nothing last week- the heat was brutal.Need two pieces - fore arm blank needs to be at least 8" long, 1 1/2" wide and 1 1/2" tall. The butt piece, minimum 12 1/2" long, 1 3/4" wide, and 6" tall (maybe bigger and longer to fit me better - haven't decided yet)
Heard that y'all had a heat wave.I will dig a piece out. I did almost nothing last week- the heat was brutal.

Yeah, yeah, show off!Personally, for this particular gun stock style with the existing patina- I am partial to the couple of candidates of crotch walnut from the post @rob3232 and the last quilted maple billet offered by @Mike1950. The wood needs character and do not have to be pristine (like it does not have to be all sapwood from the maple) and have color variegation like what Mike has shown.
If there were other options- my 3rd selection would be flamed birch. Photo not mine below. Unfortunately I don’t have 8/4 stock in the size @Mike Hill requires. I only have 3 neck blanks that are 12/4 stock (natural air dried and 2 are roasted).

My 4th option would be Hawaiian flame Koa:

I actually thought I was being neutral seeing that I nominated 2 fine members from here that posted some beauties, 3rd not being mine that is gorgeous and yes the 4th being koa. Mike now has options and he has a visual reference to now be able to make an informed decision. I am sure there are other woods that should be up for nomination if other members post some more……Yeah, yeah, show off!
