Today's Backyard Wildlife

I was at my parents the other evening. Nine of them came up from the back of the property. They traveled around the side of the house to the front. A three-point and a spike showed up after I left.

Dear racoons. Why do you find it nessacery to poop in our pool?

We don't mind you coming into our yard but when you crap in our pool that's not going to be tolerated.
I'll make a deal with you, when you get caught in our trap I'll gently set you atop your poo in the bottom of our pool & after you clean up your mess I'll take you out of the water! Deal??

The exotic pet trade has been the cause of more than one invasive species problem. Seems like Florida has more than its share of those.

Technically my front yard when I drove in tonight. I have been watching 2 large bucks almost since I moved up here but have never happened to see them up in this part of the neighborhood. Gorgeous animal that I wish I could look at on my wall every night.

How much difference in taste is a muley and whitetail, anyone know?
I've had that conversation with my nephew whose had Midwest grain fed whitetail as well as Wyoming muley. His thoughts were they were very similar, with the muley being a slightly "stronger" flavor. In talking with him, thought the biggest difference was the influence of the sage and other "brush" they eat out west. Not objectionable at all, just an underlying subtle flavor of "sage" that a lot of people equate with being gamey.

I've not had any whole muscle cuts of muley, but have had salami and sausage made with it. Tough to compare directly because of spices used, but you could tell it was made with wild game. In comparison, I've made similar salami/sausage with whitetail and some people are surprised when told it was made with deer.
