What did you do in your shop today?

Well, not the best day but I did get one pen completed. Went to shop to work on a 2 piece fountain pen per my buddy’s request and blew out 2 DIW pen blanks trying to drill them. Really bummed….valuable stuff. That was only one of the two pieces on both blanks. So, not to be deterred I drilled one of the leftover pieces and made a Wall Street II.

Can't glue them and try over?

Started another lighthouse yesterday. I thought the column was unremarkable maple but turned out to be fire box elder (not much red) but some pretty figure that I sure wasn’t expecting. I had planned to paint this column to some degree but having second thoughts now. Want to have this completed by the middle of May. I started this column piece several years ago to be a vase.

Still slowly processing walnut. Had a little bit of crotch wood in this piece and was going to make an open bowl, but that would have ended up with a weird cut line through the heart wood and sap wood. Instead, halfway through shifted gears, changed the angle, curves the top inward and made a nicely shaped hollow form.

The detour sure yielded an attractive and elegant form! Will finish off so nicely. Chuck

Not doing things per priority but this was fun. Decided to do a blue stained pine wall in the sanctuary like I did in the wood shop area. But I found better wood that has some great color in it.

….reattacking that DIW fountain pen for my buddy. The sap wood was really light so it got a dose of CA glue. Guess I will do a BLO and CA finish

Those walls look amazing! I’m contemplating doing something similar on my workshop walls, but vertical with some Cherry wood I have. Don’t think I have enough to go all the around, so may have to start with 1 wall section at a time. Chuck

1st of March.....weather should be good enough for me to start another project!
Dug out some lumber, cleaned/rearranged some things to let me work a bit better. And laid down another old rug to give my legs/knees a bit of relief. Carpet pretty much covers all the places I stand now.
Now.....just gotta finish a couple little things to start on the next.

George, I bought some mats that hook together at Sam’s. Nice foam that I like standing on. Found them in 4 packs and they hook together.

Garry-
I have some of them, but they get kicked around a lot. With as much carpet as I have now, I'll probably just put them under the carpet pcs, they will stay in place then.

Not my shop but a friend's. Paul supplied him with some thick Makore' veneer with figure to repair a family heirloom that was damaged when they, he and brother, were kids, by them....
