What did you do in your shop today?

Monday I started on the NW corner of the shop. I started putting my hand on things. If it was trash I threw it away, if it was junk I threw it on the junk trailer, if I had two of it I kept one and put the other on a pile for my sons to pick through. The west wall is done. I did the East wall and the North wall last week. The South wall is the Boogerbear. The covered area outside the South wall has all the air dried lumber and the TimberKing. Both of those things are a good week each, but it’s going to get done.

But, I did replace the dryer belt in there today and ripped some old 2x4s for Pole bean poles...

I worked on the bench and emptied the dust collector drum.

Thanks Alan, but it's really not as hard as it may look. I used to think the same thing before I started trying hollow forms.

Even though I used a Trent Bosch system with the articulated arm, these small forms are relatively easy to do with handheld tools. I encourage you to just jump in and try if this type form interests you.

I'd bet if you got together with someone who does hollow forms, you'd be turning similar after a couple hours of practice.

Picked up a nice bargain on a benchtop drill press that was barely used. Was able to pull manual off Sears site to go over anything not intuitive. Alls good. Haven’t decided if I will put somewhere else in shop so placed some weight on base. Actually for small drill it’s pretty stable, maybe 60-70 lbs. The vise was mine.

Today I roughed out an almost 12 “ W x 5” tall Maple live edge bowl, with feather figure and nice colors. I think it looks like an alien. Wife was thinking ET.

What a behemoth alien! So very cool! Chuck
Thanks Chuck - Saw this crotch piece laying in the “junk wood” pile at the firewood lot when I grabbed that big Cottonwood crotch section a few days ago. Crotch pieces are too hard to split for firewood so they usually just grind them up. I grabbed it as an afterthought and as @Mike Hill would say….it’s kinda purdy. :drinks:

Started working on some walnut that's been sitting around for a while. Worst of this warm weather is I have to rough out bigger pieces right after cutting logs instead of accumulating a bunch and waiting until I have some uninterrupted lathe time. At 64° and 34% RH, things are drying much quicker than normal for this time of year.

That is going to be SWEET! when you are done.

I just put up a Tool Review. What I'm working on is a cutting board that was ordered. And used the Fulton Thin Ripping Jig for the first time. It'll be a time saver. Waiting for the shop to warm up before glue up.

Nice coring work. Someday I'll get to try out the one I purchased from here.
