What did you do in your shop today?

A little more progress on the next batches. I finished sanding ding the refrigerator magnets.
I used a brad point bit to drill the holes for the magnets.View attachment 262339
All drilled to 1/8" depth.View attachment 262340
I finished cutting out this batch of crosses. 33 in this batch. Need to be sanded yet.

I changed the paper on the sanding mop in preparation for the sanding.
That was it for today's shop time.
Are those the legs to the work bench you were building, that the crosses are setting on? Never got it finished?

Yes they are unfortunately. I was looking at the legs last night and planning what step is next. Right now church work has taken priority but I really need to get this bench done so I can have a shop again.

I know what you mean. Projects keep cropping up. At least you get started on a planned project before you get side tracked.

I also had the garage project this summer that got in the way too. I keep waiting for the demand of the crosses I make to slow down so I can get back on the workbench build.
Another batch of 33 sanded.

And I got them oiled with blo.

These will go to church on Sunday.
Next will be finishing up a batch of refrigerator magnets and the starting another batch of necklaces. The necklaces went over well and I use the scraps from the large crosses to make them. I just run the scraps through the drum sander to reduce the thickness.

I so love to see production runs, and you seem to have perfected them for these church projects. And these items are such a blessing to the folks that receive them. Chuck

I have actually seen people tear up when I give them to them. Especially when I tell people that I say a prayer over them and ask for God's grace for the people that receive them and also for those in the house where the cross is displayed. People have said that they felt something when I handed it to them. This is why I do it, it's a calling and God's way of using us for the talents that we have. He knows our strengths and weaknesses.

Ok so the new workbench is piled on top of the old workbench and then I pile stuff on top of that at any given time.
Scraps from the crosses that need to be thinned down for the necklaces.

Safest way to reduce the thickness is running them through the drum sander. 20240918_161530.webp
By the time I'm done with this there is very little waste, lol.

What did I do today? Nuthin!
I went to the shop to finish thinning the scraps up and found the feed conveyor belt for the jet 1632 sander snapped. Grrr.

So I cleaned the rollers and table with mineral spirits and ordered a new one from Amazon, they had the best price. It won't be here till next week. Probably gonna be a pita to put on.

I haven’t replaced one yet, but I did have to figure out how to adjust my drum sander belt (similar design), so I loosened every screw to learn just how to do it, which included loosening the belt. Took me about 3 different adjustment tries to finally get it tweaked. I don’t anticipate you will have a problem. Chuck

We're getting rain now which prevents me from doing yard work. So, I finally got in the basement and put the extra section on my new to me hybrid saw. Had to drill and tap the edge of one of the cast iron sections and make an angle support bracket. I drilled a hole wrong in the bracket so I had to slot it. But it's done now. I've got a couple of easy projects that I need the saw for.

It's not tippy (to the right) at all, but I'll still install a leg section to the right to keep the rails from sagging (recommended by I think @woodtickgreg ). It'll be a simple design made from 1-1/2" x 1-1/2 hardwood scrap I have laying around.

As you can see, there's still a lot of work before I can call it a shop. You may notice the piles of wood lying around that need to be processed into blanks. Then I have to work on my DC. It never worked like it should since I installed it. No need to ask about it; I'll start a thread when the time comes.

And there in the background, you'll see my Dad's old 7-1/2" Craftsman saw which I couldn't get myself to get rid of it when he passed. I plan on restoring it and using it for rougher cuts.

Much still to do.

I boxed up the refrigerator magnets and took them to church today.

Then I worked on my 16/32 performax drum sander, installed the new feed belt. I started by loosening these 2 bolts on each side, total of 4.
20240929_131027.webp
Then backed the adjusters all the way off.
20240929_131035.webp
I paid attention to the direction arrows qhen installing the belt.
20240929_131215.webp
2 bolts where removed from the outside edge of this bracket so I could slip the belt under it.
20240929_131227.webp
The white pieces under the table are magnetic ceramic guides, 1 each side.
20240929_131241.webp
Belt on and all adjusted, it tracks true.
20240929_132148.webp
Then I finished thicknessing the scrap stock for the necklaces. And I dimensioned some more Mesquite thins to 3/8" for the next batch of crosses.
20240929_161554.webp
This is a good use for the Mesquite thins that @Tony gave me. It sure is pretty once its sanded and oiled.

Sander is again tucked away until the next time I need it.
