What did you do in your shop today?

Spent most of the day yesterday trying to make something out of this rotten punky cherry. Was not to be! It just crumbles in your hand. Had some spectacular explosions though. Lol!
Ended up just throwing it all into the burn pile.

Too bad! Wonder if this would have been a good candidate for casting/stabilization. Chuck

Finished the light pole roof thing for my neighbor lady. 5/8" plywood with recycled cedar shingles. She bought the solar powered light on top. Four coats of spar varnish on the entire thing. Hopefully that'll keep most of the moisture out for a while. Chuck and Dave asked for a photo to better show what I was trying to make.

This is the used lathe I picked up last week. Changed out the motor and rpm sensor and cleaned it up. Add on accessories hardly used. Except for a few scratches in the paint it’s like new.

Didn't take any pictures. Swapped around a couple of benches and my bandsaw to make more efficient room and get the saw rehooked into the dust collection. I did get a picture of the next project on the lathe though. I had to try out the bandsaw to make sure it worked. Mounted up a piece of elm wood crotch on the lathe.

Looking good. If your back area has the concrete as well, you might want to rent or buy a rotary hammer drill. It has an active hammer like a jackhammer. Bores through the harder stuff much faster. I bought my first one after spending a full day melting bits on concrete/mortar in a 🧱. Had three times as many holes bored in 2 hours with my rented rotary hammer drill. Owned one the next week.
Same here!! But didn't rent, found one in the dumpster at one of my jobsites in Soddy Daisy - all I needed to do was replace the cord.

Hmmm, interesting work in progress....95 air temp, my black driveway has to be approaching 100. No more today. Looks like mango and leopardwood from here.

Ok, I give in - whatsit gonna be? Beautiful box to hold a bunch of flies?
It’s a rodent trap recessed into his porch decking his implementing from missing food deliveries. The pattern flecking simulates crumbs acting as reflectors to unsuspecting rodent victim. Bye, bye……

Well, it looks like a box, smells like a box, quacks like a box .... although, there's no bottom in it yet so it won't hold a darn thing. Pretty sure it'll be a box sooner or later. What for? No plans, Anyone need a box?
