What did you do in your shop today?

Started turning some pot calls. Got a couple hollowed out and started on the third one (stabilized poplar burl). When you do something REALLY stupid, it's time to quit turning for the night.

No pictures. When you take a stabilized blank and completely turn through the bottom, it's time to throw it in the trash, cut your losses and take a break. I've sold every call I had and need to get some ready. Hurrying costs ya more in the long run.

I’ve got a ten year old neighbor girl who loves to be in my shop. A high wind last fall took down numerous trees in the region and I turned a quick goblet from a limb that I picked out of her yard. I never intended to keep it but the girl kept it and eventually decorated it with watercolor pencils. I was working with Aero Marine 321 epoxy on some wedded goblets so the girl’s goblet and my Coke bottle got a couple doses and some WOP. Neighbor is not using lathes or saws but has been helping with drill/driver and finishing. The other photo is a bowl blank that has been on the shelf for years. She wants to make it a bowl.

I've read a few times, "pics, or it didn't happen." I gotta believe that there's a requirement to post failures, once mentioned!

Way to get the little lady interested. Maybe she'll be a turner later in life

Yes, definitely pics required!!!
Just , ya know, to help others understand what/why failure occured....so it's not repeated.
Educational opportunity, safety first and all that!
😁

We'll try not to laugh.....out loud.

Nice Garry. I see your tying gear laying on the desk top there. It's almost time - get on those early little black stonefly hatches right at ice out. Skinny fish but they're usually hungry.

That fly plate hanging to the left of your roll top desk, the one with all the flies in it, is kind of intriguing.

Had a buddy stop by today and asked me to make a handle for a wrench. Too much talk and not enough work so will continue maybe this weekend.

He was my pharmacist until he retired. We were part of a group that enjoyed playing practical Jokes on each other. It got pretty interesting. One night when I was patrolling the downtown area I saw a glow in the sky. I found that the roof of his pharmacy was on fire and had radio dispatch fire units. Dispatch call Richard at home and requested he responde to his business for a reported fire. When he learned I had called the fire in, he figured it was another joke and wasn’t going to respond. He eventually did.
