What did you do in your shop today?

@Mike Hill with all the ice cream talk and pralines, I buckled and I have 2 of these in my hands :nodice::sarcastic:……which one for now and which one for later? These are light and airy that I am glad they sell these by the pint, otherwise if they had 1/2 gallon, it could be trouble……..

Light and airy? Then why choose? Get two more for later...

I've been doing some cleaning, organizing, and starting a few small shop projects. We're done with camping for the year - wanted to go on one more quick trip in September, but there are no sites available to reserve. So I'm switching the garage over from being a staging area for camping gear back into being a functional shop.

One project I tackled today was to *finally* make a handle for my vise. It's only been close to three years since I finished the workbench... The vise is a vintage Wilton that I bought from someone here quite a while ago - can't remember who from. About 4 years ago I gave it a full restoration.

Stabilized Black Ash Burl for the knob ends. Aluminum round stock. Stainless screws. O-rings on each end to help cushion things.

I've been using this bench for close to three years now and still have some finishing touches to do on it. Maybe someday I'll drill the dog holes and install the plates for my Kreg benchclamps and put a shelf or cabinet in the bottom...

Congrats on finishing the vise. Such a useful tool! Great restoration! Chuck

For the record: I was still using that vise this whole time without a handle!

I spent the rest of the day doing some organizing in a couple tool boxes, including the one next to my lathe - that one had gotten out of control.

I also turned a new knockout rod for my lathe. Earlier this summer I abused the one I made years ago as it was the only piece of metal rod with the correct diameter I needed for knock a stuck lug nut out of a socket. Ended up breaking the wood off, mushrooming the ends, and bending it. So, yeah, a new one was in order.

Wood is spalted curly maple that I had stabilized and double dyed back when I was stabilizing. Maybe I'll get back into stabilizing again someday - I especially enjoyed working with all the colors.

Well, I can check stained glass off the having never done it before list. After going to 3 different hobby lobby stores to find enough of the same white glass I was able to make these today. All the blue came from the same sheet, disappointed in the color variation but swmbo loves them so... moving on!
