What did you do in your shop today?

I miss having access to cook pine, love the shade.

When you fire up the lathe will you be making a rice bowl and chopsticks?
:sofa:
I'VE MADE SEVERAL SETS OF CHOPSTICKS.

After making the first pair I realized why chop sticks have square ends, so they don't roll away.
Been on my list to make a rice bowl with sticks.

Not a lot, waiting on Amazon to deliver my glue!:impatient:
Edit: glue came, so I did a glue up.

We had a work day at deer camp back in the spring and I brought in a cross-cut saw that was all rusty. Good handles, not really pitted either. I got both handles off today with help of PB Blaster and torch....didn't break anything either! Taking a wire wheel to blade and small parts, then will try some vinegar.....figured that's the easiest/cheapest to start. Once done, thinking will spray with a clear lacquer, mount it on a board and hang inside camp. Thought of having camp name and deer head painted on it....but would have to find somebody to do that.
Pieces to clean up.....

Immediately after finishing the bandsaw restoration, it was time to move stuff around. Both vehicles need some work - just stuff that you expect to do in time. (Well, and popping a turn signal light assembly back in place on my vehicle after just barely hitting a deer last week - thankfully no body damage.) Wanted to get to some of this work this summer, but did not have the time to do so. My vehicle needs brakes, my wife's van might too. Her van definitely needs struts, might need some other stuff, but won't know until I get a chance to do a more thorough look over everything. My wife's van is a 2013 Toyota Sienna with about 175k miles on it, so it's got a lot of life left in it, but it's also old enough that some things are getting rusty enough to be a pain to work on.

But all that means that I needed a place to do the work. In MN I'd just wait for a day when the weather was decent and do it in the driveway. Can't really do that here - our entire driveway is sloped. So a large portion of the shop gets moved around to be able to fit a car in. Thankfully I don't have to do this often - about once every 2 years or so. Hopefully I'll have it all back to normal in 2 or 3 weeks. Right now I'm waiting on an order from Rock Auto before I can do anything else.

I cleaned it up a little bit in preparation for the next phase of the workbench build. Filled my glue bottles and emptied the dust collector again. Swept the floor a bit, but not thoroughly as I'm about to make more chips.

Working on the crosscut resto a little bit. Got the metal bits cleaned. Put handles in lathe chuck....easy to sand and clean!
So today....built a box, lined with plastic, and giving the blade a vinegar soak. Will give it a few days, pull it out and take a wire wheel to it.
In the spa......

Just remember, muriatic acid and vinegar do nearly the same thing at different rates. Down side is they eat into the pitted areas as well making them bigger and likewise for hardware mounting holes. Hope it goes well for you. Looking forward to seeing the next steps.

Took the saw blade out of the vinegar spa and went at with a wire wheel in a drill.

Pretty happy with it!
Dug out and planed a maple board to mount it on, will stain it. Hopefully warm enough this weekend to do some spraying.

If you want to leave it natural shellac will seal it up nice.
