What did you do in your shop today?

I met up with Cliff at a Baltimore art show he was selling at. He left tickets at the door for us to get in. His teapots were all there, beautiful and unique art from woods like Honduran Rosewood Burl. He has a collector following. On his way home he stopped at my house and helped me with my first hollow form. I picked up a hollowing rig from him, which I have since traded to @barry richardson for one of his pieces. Bought some very nice wood from Cliff over time. Still have some. His HRB drops made great pens.

I still have some of his snakewood scraps, still trying to decide what to do with them....

Used some scrap and finished these up for little gifts in about 12 days. Tongs were quick n easy, had fun doing the smokers and trying different styles.

One maple tong, rest oak and black walnut.

Just a little prep to get ready to move the new planer in on Saturday.
I took the dewalt off the flip top cart. My friend that is helping me Saturday is buying my old dewalt.

Then I attached the disc sander to the cart since I destroyed the stand it was on.

Then I took the arbor press off the stand and carried it out to the trash. Scrappers will pick it up.

I'm not upset about the stand, it was just a cheap harbor freight stand.

The lucite for the clear snowmen isnt too bad compared to some of the pen blanks I've turned. At the speed and aggressiveness I turn these, the strings tend to melt together into small loops. The mess you see on the lathe bed is mostly from a very sharp skew in a peeling cut making tenons for a collet chuck.

It does kind of gum up the works but it looks so cool, almost like a stream of liquid flowing off the blank.
Especially Alumilite blanks. I usually run the dust collector when turning pens, and when one of those strands starts feeding into the DC and keeps going...i run the risk of getting mesmerized.
