What did you do in your shop today?

Had a tiny piece of figured wood left over from cutting the bowl yesterday. Would normally just throw it away, but decided to see if there might be a little form hiding in it. Got a nice live edge form out of it.

That pile of shavings is what’s left after three full garbage cans made their way outside.

And the view is a creek that feed into the Patuxent River at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. I just moved the lathe down here and got it set it, so I’m back in action.

And yes, the whole house smells like cherry!

Just putzed in the shop. Took the dado stack out of the table saw and put a combination blade back in it. I put a new forstner bit in my drilling jig and waxed the rods. And I cut a couple of test tennons for the workbench build.
That was about all after work.

Two more boards were worked on today... these will be brisket-type boards. One will be going to a guy who loves doing Brisket. The other guy is one who loves doing pork... (my wife loves pulled pork). These are going to be conditional gifts... just require a little brisket and a little pulled pork when they get to make them.

Leftover materials of Walnut, White Oak, and Cherry.

:ponder: ....I love doing brisket and pork. So which one is mine? 🤣
So do I. But since Eric asked first, I'll let him choose!

What size do you make these for the large cuts of meat? Probably ought to make myself one instead of dripping all over the counter. Also, do you route a juice groove in these?

Well... they are going to be a bit smaller than what they ought to be. They didn't want the big one like I made a while back which was 24 x 18. These will be about 22 x 13 and yes both will have juice grooves.

Some cleanup and working on jigs for the Beall threading tool. I was sanding a piece with my shop vac hooked up to catch dust when I started hearing noise from the vacuum kinda sputtering. I shut it down gave a few minutes and tried again. No bueno. Oh well, I got about 45 years out of that vacuum.:drinks3:
Bought a 12 gal Ridgid, will start the timer knowing it won’t likely get as many years as my old Craftsmam. Then again…it’ll probably outlast me!

This is a little proof of concept after seeing @JD1137 forms a week or so ago. One of my great nephew's birthday is in a month and I've been planning something a little weird and different for him. Seeing John's forms has given me an idea for embellishing what I'm planning even more.

Black green and yellow colors mixed with each other a little at a time for somewhere around 20 coats. That's a little black locust sphere that I carved using a ball burr.

I've got a craftsman vac I purchased around 1980 and it still works. Only bad thing about it is its loud as heck. I got a new dewalt recently to hook up to my sanders. It's called a stealthsonic, man is it quiet, the sanders actually are louder than the vac now.

Model of the solar system? Lunar lander?

Well, after 21 months, made it in the shop today (brother's shop). Or was it 12 months....too many. Had about 2-3 hours finish cutting some wood sample stock. Got maybe 12 samples cut and rough sanded and 2 samples blanks laminated. Was really slow around the equipment, been a while so did not want to make any big mistakes. Had hoped to finish them tomorrow, but a member of the carving club died, so we are getting together to say our good-byes.

Looking good Tim. Liking that little extra micro-texture you’re getting off the burr too.
