What did you do in your shop today?

No but they're smallish 8-10" diameter log but had some good red on the end. I'll post some pics when I get it

Got some shop time today so I changed a blade on the delta bandsaw. Trying out supercut blades, I ordered a few sizes to try them out.
First time I've used a 3/16" blade and wow, it cut awesome!

I got everything all adjusted for the smaller blade. I think its time for new thrust bearings on the saw. I noticed they are turning a little rough. But I dont think I ever had to push hard enough to make the blade contact the bearing.

I left a little gap between the cool blocks to allow for some movement when making tight turns.

Cut like butter in the soft Catalpa, effortless.

I quickly cut out a stack of blanks. The blade did well in walnut and maple also.

Im keeping this flame box elder for our house.

The sawdust producing machine. A dust mask was required. Someday I'm gonna have to cut a hole in the lower wheel cover and instal a dust hose port.

All cleaned up, inside and out.

I seriously have to have a burn day. Scrap is way out of hand.

So if you added a dust port to the bandsaw, would you still use the one under the table?

I saw that photo of the scrap pile of cross cutouts and I envisioned you hunched over your scroll saw, visor on, dust flying, the noise of the saw, and then a scrap cutout comes flying across the shop landing in that pile. All the while you never even look up.

That is funny, but I cut these out with the bandsaw, much quicker. Next I'll be pattern routing them.

What I did in my shop today was empty it of scrap wood!
Waxed canvas firewood bag makes it much easier to cary the scrap wood up the stairs and out of the basement shop.

Success! I love having the scrap box empty.

2 of my homemade firestarters in place.

And we have ignition!

Filling up with coals now.

Got the outside box to finish yet.

Good bed of hot coals.

And the last of the wood is in the fire pit.

And now the outside box is empty too.

Today I sanded the faces of 7 of these crosses with 400 grit and then waxed the faces. I used Johnson paste wax on these as it's easier to spread and get a thin coat. Unfortunately I don't think they make it anymore. I prefer minwax for my machine surfaces.
This one has some nice figure in it.

These will be for donation to the church benevolence fund. Any donation of $20 or more and you can choose one. 7 of these will go to church tomorrow.

3 of the seven crosses sold right away at church today. That's awesome as it helps to fund the benevolence fund for those that are going through a hardship. So after grocery shopping today I went down to the shop and started pattern routing the next batch. I got a dozen catalpa blanks done and then started on the box elder. Man I was surprised how nice the catalpa routed, hardly any tear out, just a nice clean edge. The box elder on the other hand is surprisingly hard and acts kind of like maple, it's very chippy and you have to go really slow and keep pressure on the bit.
Betty has already laid claim to the flame box elder piece, lol. That one will be for our home, I think no burnt edge on that one. I had one chip on it but I think it will rout out with the next step.

I still have about a dozen box elder to pattern rout.

I got a little shop time today so I was able to get the pattern routing done. I had to change bits as the first one was starting to loose its sharp and I was getting a lot of chip out. New bit cured that. The .apple blew out really bad and I had to ca glue a lot of pieces back on so I would have a rounded surface for the next step. My fingers are well coated in CA, lol. 20250201_180602.webp
Next step will be roundover on both sides.

Not the shape I wanted, but there really wasn't much figure, and ran into a lot of spongy wood. Removed problem areas and this is what was left. Hollowed and in a paper bag in the basement for a couple weeks.

I would like to have been looking over your shoulder on this one Tim. Nicely done.

We were left of no supervision today and so we picked on one of the meanest looking chunks in the shop. A coworker gave me several pieces of sycamore back in 2018. This one was approximately 8X15X17.
