This mesquite is from trunk that I took up to Skull Valley to get milled by friends that live there. It's been stickered on my back porch for about 3 years. I got this slab and drew the diameters where I got 4 blanks at 1 7/8" thick x 11 1/2. One had
a bunch of wavy areas that I decided I couldn't use it. The plan was not to get two from each blank, but since the wood was good, I went ahead and tenoned both sides and set a parting point in the middle thickness at 7/8 each. I'm using a D- Way parting tool that only allows for about a 4" depth, so that presented a problem. My bandsaw only allows 9" max, so I had to use a handsaw. It took more time to cut that 3-4" than it took to make 2 tenons and shape both sides.
One of the blanks had that wavy spot that wouldn't allow for 2 plates. That's why there are only 5 of them.
Now, Chuckie ole boy,(
@Maverick) you need to get your eyes tested as a couple of those plates, top left and center, need a lot more work on the bottoms. That will be done today when I get to the tenons. ............. Nubs
