What did you do in your shop today?

Looking forward to finished piece!
I don't believe I ever turned tamarind yet. Would like to try some also.

Got this bedside lamp 97% done - still need to put the trim pieces on the shade. The lamp is mahogany, cholla ( @Nubsnstubs ) and sapele. Finished with wipe on poly. I opted to put a simple on/off switch in the cord rather than having to reach up beneath the shade.

Here's a shot with the unfinished shade - banana for scale.

Making the corner pieces and making it all fit nice and snug was the challenge on this one.

Very unique! Love it!

My HVAC bud dropped by and left me with a blower. I started on the enclosure to make an hanging air scrubber. It’s a 4 speed motor so it will be interesting to see what speed I end up using.

Each side will have a 4” pleated MERV11 filter. So far I’m into this project for about 60 bucks. 50 for the filters and 10 for a 4 position switch. The rest comes from the scrap pile and junk box.

Very worthwhile project. Not seen anyone make one before. Chuck

Finally finished this trio of Jo Sonja painted hollow forms with several coats of spray lacquer.

And these cherry bowls. These were cored 18/24 months ago with @Steve in VA. 16” and 12”. There was a third small one but it cracked and could not save it.

Love those hollow forms and the cherry bowls are sweet too!

Particularly like that smaller form on the left. The colors and patterns make a nicely unique form that is very attractive.

The oak is to say thanks to our Dog Groomer, it’s a piece from the wood she gave me last month. The maple will be part of a lake themed exhibit next month at one of the stores.

Another rainy day so I decided to sharpen some band mill blades. It's easy boring work that I always seem to put off until I'm out of sharp blades. I've got 3 left and I'm hoping to do 10-20 this morning and set them after lunch. Unless something changes my plans that should last for the summer. How expensive is that machine?

Cool photo of the sparks flying. Made me go look up super slow motion grinding videos.
This is pretty much a slow motion grinder. If everything goes well I can do almost 4 blades an hour. It does a decent job which is more than I can say for the last ones that I paid to have sharpened. I don't know of anyone locally that does it anymore and if I send them to Woodmizer the shipping puts the cost up pretty high.

You know I don't really recall, this one came from woodland Mills. Bailey's sells the same machine. Edit I just looked on the woodland site, the sharpener setter bundle is $1095. I was thinking when I bought mine it was around $600.

Our turning club is beginning a relationship with a National Trust historic property close by, originally a plantation started in 1798. Among other things we will turn items from downed wood on the property for sale in their gift shop. We are going to begin by turning approximately 50 pens for descendants of the enslaved of the plantation.

This 150+ year old oak came down about 3 years ago. We took 1 piece as a test and I brought home half. Lots of punk, rot and pith cracks, but enough to work with.

And some pen blanks from the cut offs.

Finished making my air scrubber. 4 speed furnace blower my buddy gave me. Very quite on low (7db increase over ambient noise) and plenty of air movement. It’s a beast on high with way more CFM than possibly needed. Uses two 4“ filters which equals 8 1” filters for surface area. With MERV-11 filters, should do a good job of filtration.

My cost, other than the filters, 10 hogs and that was for the 4 position switch. Rest of it came from the scrap bin and left over rattle can paint.
