Finished making my air scrubber. 4 speed furnace blower my buddy gave me. Very quite on low (7db increase over ambient noise) and plenty of air movement. It’s a beast on high with way more CFM than possibly needed. Uses two 4“ filters which equals 8 1” filters for surface area. With MERV-11 filters, should do a good job of filtration.

My cost, other than the filters, 10 hogs and that was for the 4 position switch. Rest of it came from the scrap bin and left over rattle can paint.

I don't go anywhere on holidays so it's a good time to get some things done around the work bench. On days like this, when I have most of the day, I like to do a lot of cutting and shaping and rough sanding while I have all the stuff rolled out onto the driveway. That way when I only have a little time or it's a rainy day or something I can keep working on stuff inside on the bench. The hard part is remembering where I put all the pieces.

Today was band saw practice day. I replaced the thinner blade with the wider, 3TPI blade and did some resawing. Started with some cholla slices that Jerry sent me ( @Nubsnstubs ) and those went really well. Ended up making 3 panels for future use such as box lids. Two have a tiny spline in the glue joint, one does not. Then I decided to see what else I could screw up. Some time ago Joe ( @wood128 ) sold me some chunks of citrus. We aren't sure what kind but leaning toward grapefruit. I tried once before to resaw it and it didn't go well, blade skewed off to the side, tapered irregular cut, etc. But today it went pretty well - got 4 nice even slices all around 3/8" thick. Still need a little leveling out but close enough that I know I can work with them. It's still hard, just had to not force the wood through the saw. Then the wind really picked up and blew all the saw dust into my garage so I quit and cleaned up.

Finally got so turning done. Nothing fancy at all but I modified a Penn State pencil kit to remove the center band. The instructions actually state the width of the band so I didn’t even need the calipers for that step. I had some replacement tubes the correct diameter and 10” long. Used a tubing cutter. Problem on first 2 is the flex of the long drill bit I was using. Didn’t start straight but with a slimline kit it worked out okay. On the third I used my Brad point bit, went as far as I could and then switched to the longer bit.

2 are stabilized spalted maple and the third is mesquite. Can’t remember who I got the mesquite blank from but very well may have been packing peanuts from @Bean_counter. Whoever it was, my photo does not do it justice.
