What did you do in your shop today?

I love that bubinga. As always when someone makes multiple of the same thing, I have a favourite. It was hard this time though.
The two part walnut/Brazilian something was fun to make. Takes a little figuring with overlaps and overhangs and depth needed for the ogey's and for the artwork & glass, etc.

Hormigo Negro… never heard of it either
I have heard of it. Hormigo rojo refers to the redder pieces and negro to the blacker. This one seems like it should be a rojo. Cool stuff anyway. Not easy to get in Europe. Gotta hit up the specialty suppliers.

Over 100 deg outside today so stayed in and cut some blanks from flat stock.

very dense Mahogany………………………………… Black walnut……………………………………………..Catalpa
and a few blocks of fancy

Ugly piece of black locust that’s been taking up space in my garage for too long.

Some ugly will stay and become “art”.

The yellow is stunning, wish it would hold but I’m afraid it will fade to brown.

It may be, Eric. It’s been laying around so long I really can’t remember. I’ve got locust trees on the property but no Osage. Frankly, I don’t recall where I got it. May have a couple more.

Right around 70 degrees in my foundation work shop. Much better than the 99 outside!
Working on the piece of Alligator juniper burl I got from @shadetree_1 . Quick rough turn and then some epoxy sealer in the cracks and over the surface.

He also supplied and unknown to me wood that is waiting on finishes to dry and be added.

Time to label this before putting a finish on. I think @Eric Rorabaugh is right, so Osage it is.

Tom - looks great.
If you want to ID, throw some shavings in a glass of water, if the water turns orange (let it sit for a while), it’s Osage.
If you have a black light check for fluorescence. Black Locust.
Otherwise- probably Mulberry.
Hard to tell the difference between the 3 species “just by looking” (unless you are related to @Mr. Peet :lol2:
