Looks to be Rock / Sugar maple.Curious about it so cut a blank, very dense/heavy, rock maple maybe.

I only have one friend like that. I regularly get the good fruit woods, some wal- and chestnut and I have had some pistachio, some carob and even some rowan (swiss pear) (he's a professional orchard arborist). Recently got a large piece of apricot (in log form). Absolutely beautiful.Congrats! I need friends like that! Chuck
Congrats! Great rounds you have there! ChuckKind of wish I had a way to load some of the larger pieces from this pecan that was brought down near my office. There are several pieces of the main trunk about 4’ tall and close to 3’ diameter that would be great to have… but it was hard enough getting this particular section of trunk that is showing some spalting loaded up with this other nice log section. Should be fun to get cut up, now just have to decide how I want to divide up this piece of the trunk.

Great score!

The pictures do not lie! No doubt about it.Sweetgum. Green sweetgum balls on the pavement
Should make for a very interesting turn! Some eucalyptus including this crotch piece. Was cut a week ago and cracked a bit but I sealed it and don’t think cracks go too deep.

extreme, self serving pie
Now, dem are cracks! Lil Mikey knows a crack when he sees one!!
"smaller cracks" is very subjectiveApparently this variety lives in a damp location. The extreme shrinkage tells me there was quite a a bit of water fell out of this as it dried. You will need to dry that extremely slowly to get smaller cracks ...
