How's your day been?

Just got a notification that an 11,500 sf Renaissance Palazzo on the Grand Canal in Venice is now for sale. Structurally restored, by the Interior will have to built out to your specifications. I think I will have to turn it down - probably cannot afford it. I leave it open to all others for acquisition!

Who are you kidding, it isnt an affordability problem... after using 2k sq feet for living space you wouldnt have enough left over for wood storage.

In a word, exhausting! Wy nephew and family are still in town and Des Moines nephew and family also in town for a few days.

We had 16 people out all day today. Luckily, not too much cooking to do, did a spread again of salami, cheeses, dips and crackers. Leftover cookies and candy for something sweet.

Took a pic of Lane and myself. Lane is the great nephew that spent a couple days here cutting wood, learning to make candy and playing Monopoly. His Mom already has a digital candy thermometer in her Amazon cart!

Here we are with what's left of the peanut brittle he made.

Carrying on family traditions is fundamental to Western culture! So great that Lane is choosing to be the next generation to carry on! Chuck

Oh I miss homemade peanut brittle

Oh I miss homemade peanut brittle
Oh, I miss all the homemade Christmas candies that Mom used to make! I've got her recipes of some and have made a couple years ago. In the past 25 years I have not been able to partake of all that sugar! Pralines, pralines, pralines and some of her chocolate fudge and divinity and bourbon balls.

Oh, I feel like an old man today! Have been to four pre-bid conferences since New Years Day. I have quit going to and volunteering at the local Contractor organization meetings and such. It ends up that I am the only one I know that is in attendence. Everybody else has retired or died. Same thing happened at the pre-bids. Other than two guys that I trained at 2 different companies, I knew nobody. Everybody was 30's and down in age. Looked like they felt sorry for the old man!

Been there. Kind of sucks but then I think "Life goes on, time to hand it off to someone else now. Not my problem any more."

Have been getting some notifications of a Cowboy Code that they make out like it's new. Ain't new - been around for quite some time - long, long ago - even Gene Autry and Hopalong Cassidy and others would vocalize the code of the West - they may have different words, but essentially the same - centering on hospitality, fair play, loyalty, honesty, a deep respect for the land, and a rock solid work ethic. It was popularized in 2005 with a book by a financier about the problems with Wall Street titled Cowboy Ethics: What Wall Street Can Learn From The Code Of The West by James P. Owen. I have not read it. The State of Wyoming made it their official state code of Wyoming in 2010. Gotta love Wyoming!!!!

Official state code of Wyoming.

1. Live each day with courage

2. Take pride in your work

3. Always finish what you start

4. Do what has to be done

5. Be tough, but fair

6. When you make a promise, keep it

7. Ride for the brand

8. Talk less, say more

9. Remember that some things are not for sale5

10. Know where to draw the line.

What? Nothing about loving your horse and dog more than anything else?

The thing about those statements is they are very subjective and can be applied to almost anything in a wide wide range of actions, some good, some not so good. Take any one of them and apply it to any topic in today's news and you can see how it works. Kind of like the daily horoscopes or the slips of paper in fortune cookies. The only one that isn't that way is the one about promises - although even then some might argue whether something someone said was or was not a promise. Politicians love these kinds of statements.

Sometimes it's the little things! This was just released as a new product in stores and while I've been doing a lot to eat and be healthier, it's been a long time since I've been able to eat a Cheez-It, so had to try them. If you have any GF people in your life, these are worth it...

That's a bit like eating a hamburger made from soybean, isn't it? :sarcastic: Or BBQ made from a cow.
