Could you post a few close-ups and maybe one or two showing the end grain. I get a strong "Ash" feel when looking at the box, not elm.
 
There is a street near me that is lined with what they call fire Elm. There was one tree a fire that burned all the moss and scorched the bark. It needed to be completely removed as it was so badly damaged. I happened to go by it and saw some small logs. I asked if I could have it and they said sure. The next day and picked up what I could handle. So yes it is elm.

Never heard of fire elm. Must be a local name. Guess it was a massive tree being your box looks to lack any heartwood.

I stand corrected. I just looked it up again and the tree is actually a flame ash tree. Thanks for setting me straight.

If it is, I'd like to buy 2 samples from you. Looking for a 1/4 sawn sample and a flatsawn sample. Samples finish at 3" wide x 6" long x 1/2" thick. Something a touch bigger would be great so I can work it and get a feel for the wood after it seasons.
 
Here is my latest box. The body and lid is made from Alder that has been in the shop for years. The lift out tray is some more of the unknown wood I like so much. The dimensions are 8 5/8” x 4 3/4” x 3” tall.
I tried a new hinge from wood craft (Hipoint) since Brusso hinges have gotten ridiculously expensive. I am pleased with them and will continue to use them.

Pink is a common color to find in many members of the ash family. It often fades and dissapears.
