Hey Ryan, you’ve got me wondering about the persimmon because my piece is much lighter than it should be. I wonder if it was mistakenly represented when I got it from the sawmill. As the next step, I’ll take some end-grain photos and we’ll see what it tells us.
As for the cherry, I measured off 28” x 5.5” in the photos below. My overall piece is 9” wide but the pith is about at the 6” mark, so 5.5” would give you a billet without the pith. There are some worm tunnels at the bottom, which based on an endview go down about a half inch. I can send you the entire 28” or cut it to 20 inches to eliminate the tunnels. I plan to use the other half of the board for a project, and the smaller side with the pith for some spindles. So would a 20” or 28“ x 5.5” billet work you? Hows $40 sound?
