Rare exotics and edible fruit woods

@Big Ry I’ll get it sorted out. I’ve talked to The Australians and they say it’s the leaves and sap of the tree that seem to be toxic…hopefully not the wood, I’ve handled a lot of it lol. American black cherry leaves have cyanide in them. Heartwood isn’t overly dangerous other than standard saw dust. I’ll double check with a few other on the Cooktown iron wood though
I was actually reading that shop dogs died from ingesting the sawdust, but i suppose that's just anecdotes. I'm just paranoid cause my shop is in the basement of our house and I have a newborn, toddler, and cat. That is some damn pretty wood though, so I'm not sure. I guess i don't have to work it right now anyway if I'm really that concerned.

@Big Ry here is an article they sent me. I guess maybe a basement shop might not be worth the risk 🤔. I do my work in the garage so I can run fans with the door open. It’s up to you, I’ve actually got more on the way, so can always get some later

Then maybe I'll hold off on the cooktown. I already have a laundry list I'm buying from you, and I don't even know what else your planning to unveil. Some of these super hard aussie woods are pretty ugly, but I'm loving the gidgee and am very intrigued to see what your master quality piece looks like.

I’ve got a few more to unveil still. I’ve got tons of Acacia’s they just mostly look similar. Diffrent shades of browns, reds, purples and golds. I’ve been trying to get more of the purple ones. Waddywood, purple gidgee, and purple wattle. They are all rare, endangered, and heavily protected. Plus there is steep competition from Australians that want them.

I'm big into purple and red. I have tons of purpleheart and east Indian rosewood. I also have blood wood but it's a real hassle to use and turns brown quickly. So I've been trying to source redheart (chakte kok), which is much less common than purpleheart (i have a fair bit now).

So yeah I definitely would be into any purple or red Australian wood and have been planning to get purple gidgee. Let me know if you find waddywood. I can't find anyone who has it, but I also don't have any connects in Australia.

Hi @Friedrich9 what is the scientific name of it? Would you be willing to cut 1.5” from one side of it for me? … assuming at least 18” long.

@SA-Motors Didymocheton fraserianus
Board is 10” wide and I think atleast 30” long so it would not be an issue cutting a 1.5” piece for you. Just to confirm, your final size is typically 1.25”square by 18” long? I only ask because the board is about 1.375 thick. Maybe a bit less

This is gorgeous. And as much as I'd love to have it, I think it might just be too far out of my budget at this time considering all the other pieces I'm trying to buy from you.

I put all the pieces we've discussed into a spreadsheet to see where things landed. These were the individual prices you listed for each piece. I'm still curious about the ironwood wattle and bubbly figured gidgee, but I am already pushing it on spending. So if those pieces are going to be quite pricey and cannot be cut down to smaller pieces, then I'll likely pass on them.

Ok, I will probably still have it for a while.
I think there was a bit of miscommunication on the buloke, Mike claimed that piece. I believe you have to claim the item in the sale thread it’s posted in. I’ve got a few other pieces I can dig out. I’m trying to bring in more. I’ve got 2 guys that have it. But they move very slow. I’ve been waiting 18 months for one of them to ship a piece of purple acacia😂. I’m trying to get more with the figure like the bowl I turned.

the bubble gidgee will be pricey, but I was originally planning on cutting a bowl blank from itso depending on what your looking for, the cut off part will be a lot cheaper and should still be a useable size

Ironwood wattle will be cheaper, not the best figure though. I also have a piece of Belah to show you. It’s super hard also. Janka 4,500

I don't have projects planned for any of this wood. I'm really just collecting it at this point ha ha. Though the gidgee is so damn pretty that I definitely want to make something with it! I'm trying to take advantage of the opportunity to buy all these species that rarely make their way over to the US. And as previously stated, I'm trying to focus primarily on the really hard ones, which is why I opted to pass on the burmese blackwood despite its beauty. Although I didn't add it to my spreadsheet, I also passed on the Australian snakewood because its not crazy hard and I already have some surinam snakewood with snake scale figuring. It just seemed redundant, even though its a different species.

That said, the size of the piece isn't all that important to me with any of these (except maybe the gidgee). I think the biggest piece of blue mahoe Ive found so far is a 1x1x12 blank and i have a couple 3x4x1 and smaller pieces as well, and that is a species I actually want to use on upcoming projects. So I am definitely interest in off-cuts, scraps, junk wood for many of these really rare species. I was just trying to avoid punky/soft wood with the high janka hardness woods, given that I am buying them solely for their hardness.

If you cut up the bubbly gidgee, let me know and ill probably take the off-cut. But for now, lets assume I'm still interested in the ironwood wattle and this new belah you just mentioned.

Sorry I thought Mike had only claimed the Boonaree that you messaged me about. I didn't realize I needed to respond to your sale threads since you'd offered them to me in this WTB thread first. I was confused at the time why you were making sale threads for them after listing them here, but I assumed it was understood that I wanted them.

I don't much care if I don't get that exact piece of australian buloke. I just want a piece of it. It is one of the species I was most interest in for hardness, even though it's reign at the top is debated. Are you saying you already have more buloke in storage? Or are you waiting on the buloke to ship from AU? If you already have some, I'd definitely like to see it and hopefully buy it.

Both, I have a bit in my basement somewhere, but more on the way…eventually lol.
what size blue Mahoe are you looking for? I think I posted one a while ago no one claimed.

Well then Ill definitely take the buloke if you can get it out and grab a photo.

I'll take basically any size piece of blue mahoe. I just want strictly blue or bluish-gray. I don't want green or brown colored blue mahoe. At one point not too long ago I was able to find slabs of it, but I can no longer find slabs or pretty much anything else for that matter. I spoke with '3t' down at Eye of the Rainforest in PR, and she said their supply was wiped out by hurricanes Maria and Fiona. She said to watch PR Hardwoods for it, but thus far I haven't seen blue mahoe pop up there. Their supply seems very low i general.

@Big Ry @SA-Motors I just wanted to let you guys know I didn’t forget about you guys. My dad passed away so I’ll need a few days to get everything together with that. Then I’ll get everything sorted out for you guys
