What did you do in your shop today?

Did I miss something? What was a matter with the springs?
Replaced the shocks first and I was still bottoming out. The original springs were flat and I wondered if they were almost flexing up. I just didn’t get the right advice on what to order the first time.

Forgot to post this above, but this raised the rear 3 inches. Replace the front shocks and I should be good to go fishing!!!!

Today I cut up a face frame that was 1" too short, and made another. Just put it in the clamps. It took 44 dowels and 88 holes to insert them into. I have about 2 hours total work, but twice that was overcoming CRS., plus about another 2-3 hours of just having that IDGAS attitude. Tomorrow I'll take it and that wood seen upper right, the door stiles and all the other face frames that make up this kitchen I'm doing and get it all sanded. Then gotta make all the raised panel doors, about 30 of them, 10 or 12 drawers with sliding dovetails (5 piece drawers) and a Lazy Susan. I've told the recipient it'll be done by 11-1 or 11-10. That's MY deadline, not his. I'll take pictures as I proceed..

The weather is just about purrfeck for working outdoors. Since I don't have an indoor shop, outdoors is fine under 95 degrees. Today is 86 degrees.

Love to watch builds like this!

What do you like best? The small mistakes or the biguns. The one I corrected today was a little one. Most are caught before it's time to install. I don't think I ever had to bring a cabinet back to the shop to rebuild because of something stupid, but it's gonna happen. I'll get some step by step pictures, starting tomorrow with my stuff being sanded. I'll try to get a video or two of the dovetail process. I make all my drawers from 5/8 solid wood, in this case Hickory, and then 1/4" Hickory with MDF center for the bottom. ............. Nubs

All projects have their hiccups. I like the hands-on work and figuring out how to build things. Chuck

Someone named Chuck, claimed they like seeing this kind of stuff, so here goes. Face frame below belongs to the sink cabinet with a small cabinet to the left. The other face frame left of that is 1/2 of the Lazy Susan. To the right will be the dishwasher with a panel on it's right next to the Refrigerator. I'll lay out the door stiles, mark them and make sure I cut enough at the beginning. After that, I'll work on the door rails. Arched raise panel doors is what the customer wants. IMG_6508.webp

I tried to downsize the other picture , but again I've lost that battle with my computer. .............. Nubs

Not at all proud of what I did in the shop Friday.

We had a rummage sale at church Oct 3rd & 4th. We offered gardening hand tools for $2 each for the good stuff and $1 each for the more experienced tools. Nobody works, at least not those under 40. These tools have been put into and out of storage too many times. Friday, many of the $1 tools were put down. Handles were halved and heads removed. They were neatly placed around a cardboard box of bark and wood chips, within the shop stove. Handles and heads. They were converted to heat. Metal remanence made way to the scrap pile. The process was repeated a second time, but not incinerated until Saturday morning. Shovels, stone rakes, leaf rakes, weed whips, sledge hammers, hand trowels, hand saws, pole pruner and more, gone.

Yep. I ran a second hand shop for a while. Had to leave piles behind at the auction houses that weren't bringing 2 dollars a pile. If you have a local scrap artist or budding bladesmith, there is some decent stock in the pile. I have a small collection of old "tool steel" tucked away for projects. Pruning saws are almost knife blades already. I have seen multiple shovels become other things in people's yards. Leaf rakes, not too many sightings but if the garden/stone rakes went through the fire and became less brittle, I have seen them made into coat or even cup hooks.
Some things just reach an end of life, other times we lose certain skills as a group and relegate those skills to a niche, like gardening and lawn care becoming a hire out instead of of a habit. I doubt the average worker makes per hour what they pay a lawn care guy but they deem it a "savings" to hire the lawn mowed.

Wasn’t my shop but went over to a guy that is becoming my and our wood turning club’s mentor on segmented turning.

He changed the design of the club project to a 10 piece segment bowl from a 12 piece segment rings. I used the jig he has deigned to cut the 5 rings, we glued the rings, and sanded them. Brought them home to assemble and he had built the star bottom. The rings are not glued yet, they are just sitting on top f each other.

Then yesterday afternoon and today was working in the garage. After 3 years here, finally trying to get better organized and will be continuing in the real shop tomorrow. Plus I was looking for some hunting gear I had not used in 3 years.

Congrats on the organization! Think we all can say that something in our shop needs organizing! Chuck

Still the garage but sort of done for now. Denise parks her Jeep to the right where the cracked suitcase and other stuff is that’s going to a donation store. The stuff behind the Wing is hunting and fishing stuff that I still have to go through. The weather delayed me, never hit the real shop like I needed to.
