What did you do in your shop today?

Cleaning up a bit. This was when I first started it at 4:48. It's now 8:13 and I'm still 🔥 stuff. Getting tired of the clutter so a lot of it is going up in smoke. Still have a few hours of 🔥 to go and I'll be close to where I wanna be.

Sometimes you just gotta do that - even with wood that could be usable in some way. Had several fires like that before we moved.

Finally got the bench done. Even tried to use it as designed for an outfeed and…..I’m like 3/8 high. A little bummed. Sure glad the friend was able to come over and help flip and such.

Now for more unpacking!!!!

I’m like 3/8 high.

Ouch! Major bummer!

Maybe you can still use it as an outfeed table - cut some blocks/shims to go under the table saw and raise it up just a little bit. (I built a platform for my Unisaw that raises it up at least a few inches - had to do that to match the outfeed table I was using at the time, plus I'm 6' 4" and didn't want to bend down so much to use it.)

Matt, we actually did that. Placed a piece of scrap on the floor, propped up the “back” of the saw so it was angled slightly up and used the bench to catch the pieces.

I was just a bit bummed as I tried to measure everything carefully. Not sure I measured the actual bench top though….it might have said 2 inches on the label but actually thinner just like lumber.

Nice weather here for a few more hours so went out and cut up some dead aspen. Was told by a local turner that you want standing dead. Well, they were…. But been on the ground for a bit as we were cleaning up the backyard during construction. Will see what I can salvage.

I am going to save the 4 root balls and try to do a @Nubsnstubs and see what happens.

Cross-reference what free wood…..

Yesterday evening we cut up the trailer load of burls I had. It was a little of a bust. The walnut was an onion burl, cherry had some eyes in some pieces. The one I had asked about before in another thread, we decided it was elm (we think slippery elm). Here are a few pics

Hard to get to a lathe when all the work is outside. Nice haul Eric.

Heck, I haven't been able to get to the lathe in a while. Hopefully after the show at the end of the month I'll have room and get to turning again.

Getting set up to turn a bunch of pens. My wife has been going thru chemo since mid December and I will be giving them to all the nurses that have been taking such good care of her through it all. She is halfway thru so thought I'd better get started before trout/turkey/riding season gets here!

Turned a couple of spheres today, black and honey locust. Going to texture and/or burn patterns and then paint, so didn't do much sanding. Will be a gift for great nephews birthday in a couple weeks.

I haven't done much of anything in the shop. Just been working on my ebike a little and getting it ready for the season. Even though I bought a new motorcycle I'll still commute to work on the ebike. It gives me some excersize and I do really enjoy riding it. Makes no noise except for the hum of the tires. Very pleasant to ride.

Some things ordered for my sliding miter saw cabinet build , a new vacuum pump, and I got another peg board mounted to the end of my new bench/outfeed. Anything to get things off the top and out of a box. @Nature Man , Chuck, I threw in a few pics of the bench again as it starts to get loaded. getting things off the floor and seeing floor is great.

Ordered 2 sets of locking shelf brackets. I am hoping I can build a shelf on the side that I can use as a an extension of the miter saw table.

Vacuum fits in that cubby just right. I am using the remote power switch to turn it on and off. So far working out nice to suck some dust up from my portable table saw. I can use it on my router table and bench top jointer as well.

I started my Adirondack chair project with my dad. I’m building two chairs and footstools based on the Jakes chair plan. It was rough cut day. Spent several hours between the radial arm saw, jointer, and tablesaw. A few more pieces to rough cut, and then it’s onto shaping, routing, and such.

@DWasson
Adirondack chairs are so much fun to build.
Looks like your using white oak?

I've spent the last few days doing the turning, sanding, and finishing a group of pens. Just need to assemble them now.
I tried finishing a couple with CA....but just can't get the hang of it. Watched a few utubes, different combos of thin/medium....sanding, reapply....sand more. Plus the fumes.....No thanks!!!!!
So sanded to 800-1000....turn speed up to 2800, put HUT sticks to it, wipe off. DONE!!!!
CA's for gluing....not finishing IMO.
Pictures once assebled and done.
