Betcha I wouldn't. It has nothing to do with his work. He builds beautiful stuff, but I'm 79 years old, my house and property looks worse than a junkyard with all the crap I've been collecting over the years, and I feel sorry for the individual who will have to clean up this place. So, If I had stuff built by other people, it would probably end up being dumped it the trash buy the lucky individual who has to clean up my mess.
If I was 50 years old, you can bet I'd be sitting out by the mailbox awaiting a box from Doug or anyone. ............ Nubs
So was the red wood a mesquite?

@Mr. Peet , I think it's Catclaw, Acacia Greggi. There is another that's mesquite that has some eyes in it. That's dark also, but I can't say if it's red or blue. Colorblindness does have some value at times. What I sent Doug was Cylindropuntia Fulgida(the Cholla with the larger holes), Cylindropuntia Versecolor (cholla with the smaller holes and more solid ), Palo Verde Burl, Catclaw, and some Mesquite. I was gonna label the pieces, but got carried away and sealed it before I remembered to label the wood. ........... Nubs

Bandsaw guides.

I'm normally not a fan of roller bearing guides on band saws. I can make an exception for this one for using narrow blades.

Recently the local woodworking club had a Saturday workshop on making band saw reindeer which I attended as I've watched many YouTube video's on the topic and think that it is a cool way to make small, interesting things quickly. The workshop was great so I went at it later that day at home. It just didn't work well. My PM 143 14" band saw has new tires but I've never put a blade on it that was less than 1/2". After a couple of hours of trying to dial it in with a 3/16" blade I gave up. Probably put the blade back on 15 times before I walked away. It does have new rubber tires, new thrust bearings, and freshened OEM metal guide blocks.

Most people who work with thin blades use the Carter Stabilizer Guide bearing so I looked up the right part number for my early 1970's vintage saw and placed the order. This was here when I got back home this evening. I can't wait to try it out and finish the reindeer!

You know, I swear you sent me some Catclaw, but I have none recorded in the reference collection. I looked under both Acacia and Senegalia. Maybe I'll find it while finding the front porch.

@DLJeffs
Can you post some close-ups of the Palo Verde burl?

Here you go Mark ( @Mr. Peet ). Not sure what you want to see.

NOTE: Taken with 35mm under the halogen lights on my work bench. The color seems a little yellow compared to what my eye sees. This is as close as I could get without doing some extra set up and using a different lens. If you want to see something different let me know and I'll see what I can do.

First pic is a few of the slices and the outside of the end cap.

Next two pics are of the slice marked "palo verde". I gave it a quick sand down to 400. Top pic is dry, second pic is wetted with alcohol.

Here's a second slice, sanded the same, dry and wetted.

Mark, here are some pictures of the Palo Verde Burl.
This is what the exterior looked like.

This is what some of the interior looks like. It is a cutoff from picture 1.

This picture is from the small log that I split up.

This is the small log that I cut up for Doug. He got the most wood from this log and I kept this one.
IMG_6700.jpeg
I think this is Catclaw. About 75% sure. I see 6 dead limb starts. What do any of you see in this piece of besides wood?.
IMG_6704.jpeg
This is what I got the interior wood from. I call it a burl piece as I see 7 eyes, but what this piece above shows is 6 branch starts or dead limbs.

Flashing back to high school biology, I see a planarian flatworm.

Nothing. I do not ship THE USPS crazy week.
I went to Safeway and to Costco today - talk about crazy week!! Chaos circus doesn't come close to describing it. People just stopping in the middle of the aisle to chat with someone else they met, some bozo standing in front of the sample lady while 5 shipping carts were trying to get by, a couple with 5 kids running rampant all over the store grabbing stuff off the shelves and yelling "Can we get this?", a lady getting to the cash out line and THEN asking if someone could help her get something she forgot while 8 other people with full carts waited, I had to leave before I punched someone.

Sounds like my afternoon. Even the Mediterranean store was busy. Stops at Sam's and Wally world were nuts. Done though, and shouldn't have to go to a store until after New Year's.

I have to go to the PO tomorrow because I got a notice there's a package there. I suspect it's some milo and mango from Chris in Hawaii.

Woo hoo! Got me some awesome milo and a couple curly mango boards from Chris ( @Kalai ). These will likely become a cribbage board or two but who knows, I might decide to make something really cool. Thanks Chris.
