Projects I don't post (normally)

Very nice Phil! I think you've nailed the concept.

If you don't mind, I'll offer a few suggestions, mostly on style. As all of this is subjective, feel free to ignore some or all of it.

First, on the top hat. To give it more flair, I like to narrow the hat around the band and have it flair out towards the top. Gives the illusion of a wider brim without having to use a wider blank. Rather than cut a groove for the band of the hat, try using a little paint for the band.

Second, I like the little snowman, but I'd get rid of the bottom tenon. It almost looks like a fourth snowball on the bottom. Additionally, I wonder how it would look if the inner snowman was larger so that it was the same proportions as the outer man. Sized to only give maybe a 1/8-1/4" gap between the two. It might be a pain to get right, but might be an interesting look.

Third, I really like what you've done with the finial itself, but something doesn't quite "fit" between it and the snowman. Maybe it doesn't need a finial at all? Or maybe if the finial tapered more on the bottom half to a finer point?

Don't know if anything I've said is right or wrong, but if nothing else might give you some things to think about as you further develop your design.

I agree—and a wider brim on the hat. Get rid of that little snowman tenon.

Another wacky project! Going to a summer outing in the future. They wanted a theme so I came up with 50's and 60's music.
This was another early morning idea! Not quite life size to a 45 but pretty close.

Pine for the wood and enamel marker pens for the finish. Laser for the middle part.

Small project while I recoup from shots into my neck for the arthritis and slipped disk. One more round after this I hope.
1 1/2 by 1 1/2 box from limba with a rose wood inlay.
Friction polish finish.

Don't know the species. Came in a box of mixed rose wood pieces.

2x2 box made out of Milo. Friction polish finish. Bit of tear out on the inside. Didn't want to go thru the edge trying to fix. Not that easy of a wood to turn.
Below zero temps will keep me out of the shop for a while I think.

Looks good. You could have filled in the inside tear-out and simply painted the inside black. It would look good with this piece and doubt anyone would question it. I've seen folks use black epoxy to to patch tear-out in dark woods. It often gets looked over as a bark inclusion or some other natural feature, you knowing the better. Stay safe.

Good idea. Might just give that a try.

Nice little box. I have a few small pieces of Milo, so your feedback on working with it is helpful! Chuck

Love the box. Another one to add to your collection. It would look really good alongside some figured maple or similar coloured wood.

Well that sucks!
Piece of catalpa I believe. Was trying to finish the foot. I think I found a crack! Lol. Flew out of the cole jaws!!!!!
