What did you do in your shop today?

I went old school today. I wanted to put a large bevel on the bottom edge of the top of that hall table I'm making with the ambrosia maple top and legs. I couldn't figure out how to do it with the router bits I had and trying to run that thing on end through the table saw was too dangerous. So I went with a hand plane. Drew my lines, clamped the top to my work bench and started rocking back and forth. Turned out just like I wanted. The end grain bevels were a little tougher, had to make short choppy cuts going with the grain rather than cross grain cuts. A little work with a sanding block and the bevel is done. Next up sanding the legs and shelf and then getting ready to glue it up.

Spent half of yesterday morning getting my riding mower working again,a spring holder on a pulley bracket broke last year, wasn't worried about it as we had another mower to use but the motor took a dump last weekend. Got everything workin,it was running great and was mowing fantastic, the wife was finishing up and all of a sudden it stopped moving again.🤬🤬🤬 Have to get it in the garage this morning and see what happend.🤬🤬🤬 I did find time this weekend tomake myself a new ring, pics to come later.

I had to modify an old filing cabinet for my parents- remove one drawer and add one shelf. After that I accidentally got stuck in OCD mode trying to get loose bark off a small unidentified burly log. I have that cut piece in the oven today getting ready for stabilizing tomorrow. DSC09829_1.webp

Started a process of making another half dozen reel seat inserts. I have been saving up a few special blanks and a guy I fish with wants a rod for his wife. So I figured I'd make these, they'll make it worth while to set up the vac pump and mix a batch of cactus juice.
roughed out.webp

Siberian elm is my guess...
I picked it up in the desert near Meteor Crater in Arizona. I'm not too sure if Siberian Elm grows out there, but strange things happen! It actually looks a bit like Shaggy Bark Juniper, except the wood is more of a pale pink, and there's no scent.

Projects…..like drywall and insulation. Yep, broken record. But some more unpacking and such. Working on this trailer as well. Setting it up for camping and kayak hauling.

Bench needed shortening just a bit. …….

Oh, besides replacing a board in the trailer I forgot that I had a new tube put into the front tire of the 650. Just didn’t have time to do it myself but should have.

This bench was stored at my buddies barn. Actually one of the few things I saw mouse infested after sitting out there for a year. Thankfully no mouse still in there. I hate cleaning that stuff.
Yeh, go play with the RC's - that'll help with the pain of the cleaning out.
