What did you do in your shop today?

And number 2. Couple more lessons learned including a catch both outside and inside. I like the shape better.

Long ways to go to catch Steve and Barry (and others)!!!!!

Put the third coat on the top for that hall table I'm working on. Maybe one more and then I can attach the top to the legs. Then all that's left is figure out what wood I want for the drawer front.

I got a new half gallon of Cactus Juice so yesterday I stabilized a batch of 14 rough turned reel seat inserts I had accumulated over the last year or so. Today finished three plus had one blow out. FINALLY got me a figured mango insert - liking it a lot. Did an olive too that turned out real nice. And one of two mineral stained osage from Paul (came from a three way deal with @HShepard (Hunter who needed a couple reel seat inserts). The mango came from a trade with Henry ( @SENC ) and the olive from that guy who had a cargo container full a while back. Thanks to all.

These have got to be world class!

Not today but had some time yesterday to finish casting some bison horn(bone) and a couple pen blanks and finally started the scales for the first of two steak knives leopard wood.

Turned a few small bowls. Interesting looking pecan. Bottoms not finished yet. A friend asked if that was my numbering system- nope that’s how hot it was in the shop ( garage) when I turned the bowl. Might as well brag on my prowess (stupidity.). Jim

Nifty bowls, Jim. Nice work!

It's been 106* the last 2 days here also.

If I'm in the garage the door is open. The west facing door gets direct sun after 2:00 p.m. I can work out there until the sun starts creeping in. After that it gets unbearably hot.

Prepared the stock for my end grain cutting board class at the local Woodcraft. Do it 3 times a year. Won’t get rich with this gig. The store pays me for the wood and supplies I provide and then the remainder of the class tuition is divided 50/50. But I do get the employee discount, which makes it worth the time I invest getting everything ready and then a Sunday afternoon and Monday, Tuesday evenings.

Sapele, maple, cherry and walnut.

Spent a little time cleaning. Shop-vac'd sawdust and shavings. Cut up a few odd pcs into pot call blanks and small bowl or platter blanks. Have a piece of osage orange for a pot call, excited to see how that 'turns' :lol2: out!!!
Never used it before.

Put two more coats of wipe-on poly on the drawer front for the drawer in that hall table I'm making. Maybe have it done by this week end.

And inspite of my ineptitude and blow out on my osage insert, I did manage to finish these two. Really pretty burls - don't ask me what kind, I don't remember. They're pretty, let's leave it at that.

Time was a little limited because it is our anniversary. I looked it up, the 43rd year is First Aid Supply Year so I got my wife a card and a brand new bottle of New Skin. Nothing says romance like liquid bandage, right? I think she'll be surprised. After so many we don't usually get all sappy and romantical about it. I baked cupcakes too. Got me some brownie points today.

Got a little time in the shop today. Cleaned the Jet overhead dust filtration system and it was way overdue. Worked on the couple of German smokers that were started a week ago.

BTW.......anybody have a pot call from osage orange?
Does the fresh-cut color hold as it ages?
Tru-Oil a good finish for it?
